Welcome parents and students to Milam Elementary School and to our 3rd grade class website!
I am thrilled to be a part of the Milam Elementary School team and look forward to an exciting school year with each and every one of you.
I am a home-grown native of El Paso and attended Mesita Elementary, El Paso High School and the University of Texas at El Paso.  I received both my Bachelor of Science in Education degree as well as my Master of Education degree from UTEP.
I am a strong believer in being a life-long learner, therefore, I have numerous teaching certifications that I have received over the course of the past 31 years while in the education field.  I am a highly qualified teacher who is qualified to teach the Gifted and Talented students and hold certifications in the areas of:

  • Elementary (Grades 1-8)
  • Generic Special Education (PK-12)
  • Kindergarten (Grades PK-KG)
  • Early Childhood Education-Handicapped (Grades PK - 6)
  • Business Education (Grades 6-12)
  • Technology Applications (Grades EC-12)

I have been fortunate to teach all grade levels from Pre-Kindergarten all the way through ninth grade both in the public school setting and within the private school sector.
I have had the opportunity over the course of my career to focus on teaching all subject areas in the self-contained classrooms and have had the opportunity to specialize in particular subject areas within departmentalized campuses.  I have had the pleasure over the years to work with students of varied strengths and weaknesses from diverse, socio-economic backgrounds with various levels of knowledge and experiences that are brought with the students to the classroom.

In addition, not only have I been a classroom teacher, but I have had the pleasure of  holding positions in the administrative areas as the Program Coordinator at Silva Magnet High School for Health Care Professions and the Coordinator of the Developing Research and Early Aspiration Medical Scholars Program for over ten years.

My preparation/conference period for the 2016-2017 school year will be from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. daily unless an adjustment was made due to a school related activity or an unforeseen absence.

I look forward to working with you and your child as we work towards gaining knowledge while becoming a life-long learner and productive citizen within the community with which we live.
This website is designed to keep both parents and students
informed on what is happening at our school and in our class.  It will be a continuous work in progress so please visit
the site often throughout the school year.

Warmest regards to all,
Ms. Serna
